About ICOMB Global Scholarship Fund

Introduction

The purpose of the ICOMB Global Scholarship Fund is to grow leaders for Mennonite Brethren churches around the world, not only in biblical and theological studies, but also in education, medicine, business and other professions in order to build visionary and sustainable local and national churches.

ICOMB, after conversations beginning in 2006, took final action to establish the ICOMB Global Scholarship Fund at its annual meeting in Germany in May, 2010. The new Fund officially opened on June 1, 2010.

ICOMB has contracted with Mennonite Brethren Missions and Services International (MBMSI) to manage the Fund on its behalf. Simultaneously, MBMSI is directing earnings from its previous educational endowments into the ICOMB Fund, making for an integrated global scholarship fund serving Mennonite Brethren churches around the world.

ICOMB has also established a global scholarship committee to oversee the Fund, including responsibility for policies and procedures along with continuing performance reviews.

Purposes

Specific purposes of the ICOMB Global Scholarship Fund, as stated in the “Founding Document,” are as follows:

• “to grow teachers through advanced education, who in turn will teach others in the Bible schools and institutions of higher education of the smaller and developing ICOMB member churches,

• “to grow pastors, evangelists, missionaries, teachers, administrators, businessmen and women, medical and other professionals, and the like who show significant potential for
contributing to the holistic development of the church and society in the smaller and developing ICOMB member churches.”
