Scholarship Application Process

Introduction

The ICOMB scholarship program gives preference to Anabaptist study programs located in the geographical and cultural context of the scholarship applicant. When Anabaptist academic opportunities are limited, other evangelical training programs in the applicant’s home country or region will be given priority. If these training opportunities do not exist within the candidate’s geographical and cultural context, academic programs in Mennonite Brethren institutions of higher education in other countries may be considered.

The Application Process

1. The national church conference selects a candidate, develops a study program proposal, and sends a complete request to the Scholarship Fund Coordinator (including completed form F800 –Scholarship Application). The study program proposal should include the desired course of study, the school where study is intended, the conference’s financial commitment, and possibilities for future placement of the candidate.
2. The Scholarship Fund Coordinator analyzes the application and study program proposal developed by the sending conference and forwards it to the Global Scholarship Committee.
3. The Global Scholarship Committee, after reviewing the application and proposed study program, communicates its decision to the sending conference.
4. Funds are dispersed to conferences if the study program is in the home or a neighboring country, generally one month before expected need. The conference is then responsible to direct funds to the educational institution in which the student is studying.
5. For studies in Canada and the United States, funds will be sent directly to the educational institution during the normal payment cycle immediately preceding the commencement of the term.
6. Scholarships may be terminated under (but not limited to) the following conditions: lack of funds; student de-registration or failure to make adequate progress; withdrawal of support from the conference.

Scholarships are granted on an annual basis, subject to annual review, differentiated according to marital status, and renewable for up to (but not exceeding) three years per program. Recipients of graduate level scholarships are required to spend a season in service (minimum of three years) to their sponsoring conferences before continuing on to post-graduate study.
