Thailand 2017

The Church on Mission: An ICOMB Consultation

The Mennonite Brethren church will gather together from around the world with a call to renewing our mission and inspiring a movement of prayer. In partnership with MB Mission, ICOMB is inviting church and mission leaders from the Mennonite Brethren global family.

What is God saying to the Mennonite Brethren today? The global MB family is seeking God’s direction for our greater mission calling. MB Mission is a vital part of this event as we work together. It will be historic. In 1988 a mission consultation was held in Curitiba, Brasil. ICOMB was a result. In 1999 a smaller mission consultation was held in Wichita, USA. This is the first time that the global MB church itself is calling for such a meeting.

We invite your prayers and support for this historic first! Our vision is that each ICOMB member will leave with a renewed sense of God’s calling with 3-4 specific mission initiatives (global and local). Our faith vision is that each group will leave with a commitment to build a prayer movement in their national church.

Thailand 2017 is by invitation, to preserve the character of a consultation rather than a general convention.

Thailand 2017 is by invitation, to preserve the character of a consultation rather than a general convention.

Each ICOMB member will bring their president and mission leader, funded by ICOMB and MB Mission respectively. Then, depending on size of conference, they may add 1-2 more such as women’s director, youth director, etc.

MB Mission will also send key leaders in every region they are working, plus they will sponsor up to 2 leaders from emerging conferences which are not yet part of ICOMB.

Other invited guests will include presidents of Mennonite Brethren Universities, and key leaders from select districts or regions and mission-focused churches.

The following are the guidelines for choosing delegates from ICOMB National Churches:

Size will affect the number of delegates from each conference, based on the total number of members.

  • Under 500 members = 2 delegates (President, Mission leader). ICOMB members in this category: Portugal, Lithuania, Bavaria, Austria, Peru, Uruguay.
  • 500-5000 members = 3 delegates. ICOMB members in this category: Colombia, Germany AMBD, Japan, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay (both Spanish and German).
  • Over 5000 members = 4-5 delegates. ICOMB members in this category: Angola, Brazil, Canada, Congo, Germany BTG, India, Khmu Mission, USMB.

Type of delegates & who pays for them:

  • President, or designate. This is the normal person sent to ICOMB Summit. ICOMB will pay for the plane ticket and registration for Consultation (March 7-12, and for Summit (March 13-14)
  • Mission leader. This person leads church planting, mission program, etc. MB Mission will pay for the plane ticket and registration for Consultation and for Summit.
  • Positions 3-5 (depending on the size of your conference) are flexible. We recommend priority on women’s leader and youth leader. The National Church is responsible to pay for the plane ticket and registration for the Consultation. These delegates are expected to return home on March 12.
